Navigational Aids
and Chart Symbols

This section continues to explore the wide world of navigation with a look at the traffic signs found along Canada's waterways. Section 2 also explains the use of the symbols found on Canadian charts.

The objective is to provide you with a working understanding of the navigational system and common chart symbols. It may take an hour or so to read this section. Additional time should be spent learning the types of Canadian markers and buoys and becoming familiar with the organization of Chart 1, Canada's directory of symbols, abbreviations and terms. Test Yourself will take you about 20 minutes to complete.

Section 2 covers performance objectives 2 and 12. of Sail Canada's Basic Coastal Navigation Standard.
